An Unanswered Question is a story that I began to illustrate in 2004. It follows Nya and her children as they attempt to awaken Earth from her sleeping state. I was curious to see how I would rework the images given such a significant time lapse. An old friend recently reminded me that nothing happens before it’s time. This image is the first in this series.

The response to care and be cared for is so primal and so human. In the first years of life unlike any other creature we require a tremendous amount of tenderness and protection. It would seem Love transmitted through touch is hard wired into our DNA. This came into sharp focus five months before the first ‘Lockdown’ was announced when I became a Mama for the first time. I headed to the studio as soon as I was able. Using simple fluid strokes I generated several studies that attempted to capture something of this.

‘Let’s hitch a ride on the back of a whale You take the lead I’ll leave a trail For the sky to follow All the way into tomorrow’
These words spilled out of me about ten years ago and began as a song that I entitled Aaron’s Lullaby in memory of a dear friend who passed away around the same time. The character of the whale came later (a few years ago), and prompted the visualisation of the story. This piece is the first in this series to be reworked.
Be the Treasure You Seek, 2018
+ Screen print + Limited edition of 100 + 250mm x 350mm + Unframed
In 2018 I produced my first screen print ‘Be the Treasure You Seek’. At a time when we have had to dig deep to regain our sense of ground, this original quote resonates with new meaning. The print uses playful, hand painted lettering and a mixture of colours that blend from hot pink into gold. Each print is unique in the way the colours merge.
